First Aid at Work (inc. Emergency Paediatric First Aid) Course Description

First Aid at Work training course

This is either a 3 day/18 hour course or 2 day/12 hour requalification course.
 
This first aid course is compliant with the Health & Safety Executive HSE requirements.

The course covers the most common serious illnesses and injuries that can occur in the work place. The skills learnt on this course can help save lives at work, home, and at play.

The 3 day First Aid At Work (FAW) training course is also highly recommended for anyone with an interest in first aid or who find themselves caring for relatives.

NOTE: this course now includes the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course syllabus. The certificate is valid for both qualifications.

The course syllabus is as required under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

On successful completion the learner will be a ‘First Aider in the Work Place’
and they will be able to:
  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
    • The importance of preventing cross infection
    • The need for recording incidents and actions
    • Use of available equipment
    • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
  • Administer CPR including using an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns (inc. electrical) and scalds, splinters
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with head injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with burns (inc. electrical) & scalds
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with eye injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with chest injuries
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
  • Administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylactic shock
  • Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)
  • Provide appropriate first aid for hypothermia and heat stroke

 

(This course is suitable for the security industry door supervisor SIA first aid course requirement from April 2021)
