First Aid at Work Requalification Training Description

Blended First Aid at Work Requalification Training Course

This is a blended 2 day/12 hour first aid requalification course for people who hold the 3 day First Aid at Work qualification.

FREE 12 hour Paediatric First Aid (Ofsted compliant) qualification is included with this course, as all the required topics/skills are covered.  The certificate we issue specifies both qualifications.

The online first aid learning is completed at your own pace.
Day 2 is completed in the classroom.

Note: The online first aid training should be completed before the classroom day.

IMPORTANT: Learners must have a valid First Aid at Work certificate that is within 3 months before expiry or 1 month after expiry.  Unused time is added to the new certificate so no time is lost by coming back early.

The original first aid course must have been at least 50% classroom training.  100% online first aid at work courses are not valid!

This first aid course complies with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

It covers all the most common serious illnesses and injuries that can occur in the work place. The skills learnt on this course can help save lives at work, home, and at play.

On successful completion this gives the learner the right to be an ‘First Aider in the Work Place’.

The course covers:

  • Anaphylactic Shock: Administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylactic shock.
  • Bites & Stings: Respond appropriately to bites and stings.
  • Burns & Scalds: Administer first aid to a casualty with burns (including electrical) and scalds.
  • Chest Injuries: Administer first aid to a casualty with chest injuries.
  • Choking: Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
  • CPR & AED: Administer CPR, including using an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Extremes of Body Temperature: Provide appropriate first aid for extremes of body temperature.
  • Foreign Objects & Eye Injuries: Respond appropriately to foreign objects in the eyes, ears and nose, and eye injuries.
  • Head, Neck & Back Injuries: Respond appropriately to head, neck and back injuries.
  • Initial Assessment: Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency.
  • Major Illnesses: Recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first aid, including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes.
  • Minor Injuries: Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns (including electrical), scalds, and splinters.
  • Musculoskeletal & Spinal Injuries: Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries.
  • Poisoning: Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
  • Role of the First Aider: Understand the role of the first aider, including gaining consent, preventing cross-infection, recording incidents and actions, and using available equipment.
  • Secondary Assessment: Administer a thorough head-to-toe examination of the casualty to identify signs of injury or illness, gather relevant history, and monitor signs to inform ongoing care.
  • Shock: Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
  • Unresponsive Casualty: Administer first aid to a casualty who is unresponsive, including seizures.
  • Wounds & Bleeding: Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding.

Assessment Type

Options: 100% Practical or End of Course Test and Practical

Attendees on this course can be assessed by one of the following options:

  1. Practical assessment of key skills e.g. CPR and recovery position.
Theory assessment by an end-of-course multiple choice test.
A good option for staff who want a mix of practical and theory and who perform well with written tests.
  2. 100% practical assessment of all skills.
There is no end-of-course test. Attendees must participate fully during the course.
This assessment option should be considered for learners who enjoy practical work. It is a good option for learners who may not have English as a first language. Learners must still have a good understanding of spoken English.

All learners on a course must be assessed using the same option.
