Emergency Paediatric First Aid Training Description
Approved 1 day Emergency Paediatric First Aid.
NOTE: this qualification can usually be included with the 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course. Please or contact us to discuss your requirements and we will make sure you are getting the best course for your needs.
On completion of training successful candidates will be able to:
- Role of the Emergency First Aider: Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to gaining consent,the special needs of Infants and Children, preventing cross-infection, recording incidents and actions, and using available equipment.
- Initial Assessment: Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency.
- Unresponsive Casualty: Administer first aid to an infant & child casualty who is unresponsive, including seizures.
- CPR & AED: Administer CPR to an infant & child, including the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
- Choking: Administer first aid to an infant & child casualty who is choking.
- Wounds & Bleeding: Administer first aid to an infant & child casualty who is wounded or bleeding.
- Shock: Administer first aid to an infant & child casualty who is suffering from shock.
- Minor Injuries: Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns (including electrical), scalds, and splinters.

Assessment Type
Options: 100% Practical or End of Course Test and Practical
Attendees on this course can be assessed by one of the following options:
- Practical assessment of key skills e.g. CPR and recovery position.
Theory assessment by an end-of-course multiple choice test.
A good option for staff who want a mix of practical and theory and who perform well with written tests. - 100% practical assessment of all skills.
There is no end-of-course test. Attendees must participate fully during the course.
This assessment option should be considered for learners who enjoy practical work. It is a good option for learners who may not have English as a first language. Learners must still have a good understanding of spoken English.
All learners on a course must be assessed using the same option.
