CPR, AED and Medical Emergencies Training for GP Practices

Keep your practice team compliant with their annual resuscitation & medical emergencies update. Delivered onsite at your surgery, this 2 hour session covers the Basic Life Support, AED and anaphylaxis skills that the CQC and Resuscitation Council UK expect every clinical team to refresh each year.

The Resuscitation Council UK and the CQC (GP Mythbuster 1: resuscitation in GP surgeries) expect all clinical staff to be trained in Basic Life Support and AED use at least annually, with non-clinical staff trained to a level appropriate to their role, and the whole team confident in recognising and treating anaphylaxis. This session is designed to meet that update and can be recorded as CPD for appraisal and revalidation.

Covered as standard:

• Recognising and managing a medical emergency in the practice
• Adult Basic Life Support / CPR, and the differences for children where your practice sees them
• Safe, effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Anaphylaxis and the use of adrenaline auto-injectors
• The unresponsive casualty, including seizures and the recovery position; and choking

Tailored to your team on request – for example oxygen therapy, asthma, hypoglycaemia, and angina/heart attack. We can also extend the session for clinical teams who want an Immediate Life Support (ILS) style update.

Certificates, your way: we can add each attendee’s photograph and their GMC/NMC/GDC registration number to the certificate – ready for appraisal, CPD records and CQC evidence.

On successful completion, each learner will be able to:

1. Role of the emergency first aider – including gaining consent, preventing cross-infection, recording incidents and actions, and using available equipment.
2. Initial assessment – assess the situation to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
3. Unresponsive casualty – care for a casualty who is unresponsive, including seizures.
4. CPR & AED – perform CPR and use an Automated External Defibrillator.
5. Choking – help a casualty who is choking.

Course details: 2 hours · onsite at your surgery · up to 12 people · certificate valid 1 year · continuous practical assessment, no written exam.
