Can bury people within seconds.

  • ?️ Rising temperatures (snow melting/unstable)
  • ? Strong winds forming snow drifts
  • ⚠️ Cracks in snow or “whumphing” sounds underfoot
  • ?️ Steep slopes (30–45° most dangerous)

? If You’re Caught in an Avalanche

  • ? Shout & Wave to alert others
  • ? Try to Move to the Side of the avalanche path
  • ? Swim Motion to stay on top of snow
  • ? If buried:
    • Cup hand in front of mouth (air pocket)
    • Conserve energy, don’t waste breath shouting

? Treatment for Avalanche Victims

  1. ? Check for Safety before approaching.
  2. ⛏️ Mark Last Seen Point of casualty.
  3. ❄️ Dig Carefully (hands/shovel) – start downhill side.
  4. ? Once Found:
    • Clear airway & check breathing.
    • Begin CPR if not breathing.
    • Treat for severe cold/hypothermia: wrap in blankets, insulate from ground.
