Social Action, Responsibility and Heroism Act 2015
The SARAH Act 2015 is a UK law designed to reassure people that they won't be unfairly treated or sued if something goes wrong when they're trying to help others in emergencies.
Courts must consider whether someone:
E.g. Giving first aid, helping at the scene of an accident.
E.g. Taking reasonable steps, using first aid training appropriately.
E.g. Intervening in an emergency with courage, not recklessness.
“If you try to help someone in an emergency, the law is on your side.”
| ✅ Do | ❌ Don’t |
|---|---|
| Try to help if safe to do so | Ignore someone in need out of fear of being sued |
| Use your training calmly | Panic or act recklessly |
| Call for help and reassure the casualty | Do something dangerous without thinking |
“Better to do something than nothing.”
You are legally protected when you act with care and in the interest of others.
