Recognize the signs and act fast – stroke is a medical emergency

A stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off, causing brain cells to be damaged or die. It is a medical emergency.

Signs & Symptoms (Think FAST)

  • ? F – Face: drooping on one side, uneven smile
  • ? A – Arms: weakness, unable to lift one arm
  • ? S – Speech: slurred, confused, or unable to talk
  • ? T – Time: call 999 immediately

Other possible signs:

  • Sudden severe headache
  • Blurred or loss of vision
  • Loss of balance or coordination
  • Numbness/weakness on one side

Treatment / What To Do

  • ? Call 999 immediately – say you suspect a stroke
  • ? Keep casualty comfortable and supported
  • ❌ Do NOT give them food, drink, or medication
  • ? Stay with them, monitor breathing and response
  • If they lose consciousness, check airway and breathing – be ready to give CPR if needed
