About the Basic First Aid course

This is a Basic First Aid Course delivered over 3-hours.
The course covers a similar syllabus to the 1 day/6 hour Emergency First Aid at Work course in less detail, with practical sessions.  However, i
t is not considered sufficient for most UK workplaces (the HSE recognise the 6 hour/1 day course) but it may be ideal for giving basic skills and awareness to a larger number of workplace staff.

Complies with Standard 12 of the Care Certificate (learners must complete the practical skills, not just watch).

On completion of training successful candidates will be able to:

  • Role of the First Aider: Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to gaining consent, preventing cross-infection, recording incidents and actions, and using available equipment.
  • Initial Assessment: Assess the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly, and effectively in an emergency.
  • Unresponsive Casualty: Administer first aid to a casualty who is unresponsive, including seizures.
  • CPR & AED: Administer CPR, including the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Choking: Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
  • Minor Wounds & Bleeding: Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding.
  • Minor Injuries: Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns (including electrical), scalds, and splinters.
